Remarks from the Director of CCISSR
After thirty years of the reform and opening up, China¡¯s commercial insurance industry and social security system are playing increasingly important roles in the economy. This has created urgent needs not only for studies on theories and policies about insurance and social security, but also for high-quality education in these fields as well. Under this circumstance, the CCISSR was established on September 28, 2003.

Thanks to the strong support from all the others, the CCISSR has successfully held a variety of forums in the past five years, including five annual sessions of ¡°Beida CCISSR Forum¡±, ¡°The Summit of International Insurance Supervisors¡±, ¡°The International Forum of Human Resources Development in China¡¯s Insurance Industry¡±, ¡°The Workshop on China¡¯s Social Security during the Transition Period¡±, ¡°The Workshop on China¡¯s Insurance Industry under the Perspectives of Economic and Social Development¡±, ¡°The Round-table Forum of China¡¯s Insurance Solvency Reform¡±, and ¡°The Round-table Forum of China¡¯s Insurance Development in the Context of Financial Integration¡±. In addition, it has also conducted a series of ¡°biweekly seminars¡± and the occasional ¡°Beida-Aviva Insurance Lectures¡±. Moreover, the CCISSR has produced more than ten pieces of research books and more than twenty issues of the CCISSR briefs.

The CCISSR¡¯s practice over the past five years demonstrates that it has upheld the motto of Peking University --"Patriotism, Progress, Democracy, Science", set up a platform to facilitate the information exchange and cooperation among the government, academia, and industry in China, and promoted theoretical studies, policy research, and knowledge dissemination and application in China¡¯s insurance and social security through a series academic research and exchange activities.

Success needs wisdom and enthusiasm contributed from all kinds of people and the CCISSR is of no exception. We are sincerely grateful to Peking University, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, and the National Council for Social Security Fund, the People¡¯s Bank of China, and the Ministry of Health and others. We would also like to extend our thanks to the CCISSR members, advisors, executive members, research fellows, and especially those colleagues from CCISSR member units for their enthusiastic participation, active cooperation, and sincere support.

We are highly encouraged by your shared understanding and strong support. In line with its mission, the CCISSR will continue to make efforts to promote theoretical innovation and practice in China¡¯s insurance industry and social security.
